The Philadelphia Eagles lined up media availability for re-signed linebacker Brandon Graham, new cornerback Byron Maxwell and recently acquired quarterback Sam Bradford today.
Before any of the players could take the podium, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly suddenly appeared in the NovaCare Complex media room and fielded questions about his surprising flurry of moves thus far in the 2015-16 season.
One of the most interesting things that Kelly said was, of course, in reference to the trade of quarterback Nick Foles and a second-round pick to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for quarterback Sam Bradford.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kelly revealed that he has already been offered a first-round pick for Bradford, a player who he said will be the team's starting quarterback next season.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports and Ross Tucker of NBCSN both surmised that the most likely team to have offered the pick to the Eagles was the Cleveland Browns, who currently have two first-round selections in the 2015 NFL Draft.
He also said, "Let's dispel that right now" in reference to the notion of the team trading up in the first round in April for former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, per Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly.
He said that he wouldn't "mortgage" the future just to get one player.
As for other issues, Kelly, per Reuben Frank of CSN, revealed that he wanted to see wide receiver Jeremy Maclin return, but "couldn't go as high as Kansas City."
Maclin officially signed a new deal with the Kansas City Chiefs today that carries an annual average value of $11 million.
As for the front office shake-up which saw Kelly wrest control of personnel from former GM Howie Roseman, Kelly denied that it was based on his demands, alleging instead that it was team owner Jeffrey Lurie's decision, per Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
