MLB Injury Report 2013: Atlanta Braves Starting Outfield Injured; Uptons and Heyward Go Down

In just two days the Atlanta Braves have lost their entire starting outfield. In an even stranger turn of events, their two sibling outfielders were injured on the same day, according to the Associated Press.

Center fielder B.J. Upton suffered an injury Friday to his right leg in the first inning while he was rushing in to field a ball hit by Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier. He wasn’t able to field the ball as his knee ran into the centerfield grass.

Justin suffered a left calf strain in the seventh inning as he was running to first base.

B.J. was replaced by rookie outfielder Joey Terdoslavich. Justin was replaced by shortstop Tyler Pastornicky.

Just a day earlier right fielder Jason Heyward strained his hamstring and had to sit out last night’s game.

The Braves have two additional injuries in the outfield. Center fielder Jordan Schafer is suffering from a right ankle injury which is keeping him on the disabled list. Evan Gattis, who Is a natural catcher and played exceptionally well when starting catcher Brian McCann was hurt, was able to start 11 games in left field. However, he is on the DL suffering from a right oblique injury.

Despite their injuries the Braves are looking to stay in first place in the National League East. They have been trending downward, losing six of their last ten games. Braves fans are hoping the injuries to their starting outfield do not provide more troubles.

However, the team is in good shape right now, leading the Washington Nationals by six games.
