Former Houston Texans wide receiver signed a three-year deal worth $21 million with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday. But before he did, the San Diego Chargers were making a hard push for the veteran wide receiver.
Johnson, 34, was released by the Texans this offseason after he caught 85 passes for 936 yards and three touchdowns last year. The Chargers were reportedly very interested in adding him to the roster.
"Source on Chargers' push for WR Andre Johnson: 'They were all in. Close as you can get.'" Michael Gehlken of the U-T San Diego tweeted.
As a result, the Chargers shifted their focus to re-signing wide receiver Eddie Royal, who has played the last three years in San Diego. However, Royal ultimately signed with the Chicago Bears last night.
Royal hauled in 62 balls for 778 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
