No. 2 Duke hasn't lost since Jan. 28 and heads into Thursday looking for its 12th straight win. The Blue Devils concluded their regular season on Saturday with an 84-77 win over North Carolina, thanks largely to guard Tyus Jones. The freshman carried Duke on his shoulders, scoring 24 points - including 17 in the second half - and tallying six rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
"They believe in me to have the ball in my hands and to be the point guard of this team, and Coach (Mike Krzyzewski) believes in me," Jones said after the win, according to ESPN. "We believe in one another, and if you kick it to somebody, one of your brothers, you trust them to make the shot and they trust in me."
The Blue Devils (28-3) finished the regular season strong, but their tournament opener is against one of the only three teams to beat them this season. NC State stunned Duke on Jan. 11 with an 87-75 win, which marked the Blue Devil's first loss of the season.
"Were we as tough as we needed to be? No," Krzyzewski said afterward. "Does that mean we're soft? No. We're a good team. We need to learn to play at that level. You've got to be in these things to learn it."
NC State (20-12) finished the regular season with two straight wins and extended the streak to three after Wednesday's 81-70 win over Pittsburgh. Wolfpack guard Anthony Barber turned in a huge offensive performance with 34 points, and guard Trevor Lacey added 21 points.
