Nose tackle B.J. Raji missed all of last season with a torn biceps muscle. The injury couldn't have come at a less opportune time as the big bodied defender is now a free agent. While his NFL future may be up in the air, Raji has been working hard to return to the field for an interested team.
"He's actually better now than he's ever been," trainer Joe Carini said via the Journal-Sentinel. "He has to have a monster year. He knows it. And he's just looking forward to the opportunity."
"This will blow your mind, too," he said. "This week on my squat machine, he back-squatted 1,100 pounds for three sets.
"It's so phenomenal. His hip strength - the size of his thighs - he's taking these weights but he's going way, way past parallel which means his hips are going way below his kneecap. And he's just powering straight up. No hesitation. It's just phenomenal."
The opinion of Raji's trainer is one thing. How NFL teams view him is another. Will he get a chance somewhere in 2015?
"There's not expected to be major interest in a player who missed all of last season because of a torn biceps tendon," ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky wrote. "Look for Raji to return on another on-year deal for even less than the $4 million he got last season."
Raji made the Pro Bowl in 2011 when he recorded 22 tackles and 3.0 sacks.
