New Orleans Saints RUMORS: C.J. Spiller Wanted to Complement Mark Ingram?

C.J. Spiller is probably the biggest name left on the free agent running back market. Even though Spiller is a bit fragile and coming off a disappointing season, he can still help a team out with his speed. That's why the New Orleans Saints are reportedly targeting him in free agency.

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, strong mutual interest exists between Spiller and the New Orleans Saints," Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com wrote.

"Spiller would be a great fit in the New Orleans offense, possible filling the role that remains as a practical matter vacant after the 2014 trade of Darren Sproles."

Spiller is still dangerous in space and would be a quality pass-catching option for quarterback Drew Brees. After shipping off top target Jimmy Graham earlier this week, Brees could use all the talented pass-catchers New Orleans can get its hands on.

What will be interesting to monitor is how much money the Saints are willing to commit to the running back position. General manager Mickey Loomis already re-signed Mark Ingram to a four-year deal worth $16 million. Spiller may be hard pressed to find big bucks from New Orleans, especially after the down year he had in 2014.
