While Apple's iPhone 6 was a revolutionary update for the iPhone system, the latest rumors make the iPhone 6 pale in comparison with its succeedor, the iPhone 6S.
Early reports reveal that the iPhone 6S could incorporate Force Touch technology into the iPhone. An unnamed iPhone supplier told the Wall Street Journal that the recently introduced technology would incorporate the new touch-sensitive feature that both the Apple Watch and the updated Macbook will feature in the next month or so. The Force Touch would allow users to customize the phone's interface so that specific motions and swipes could translate into a variety of actions.
Apple introduced the Force Touch technology during the March 9 Apple Event. Apple displayed a number of features that Force Touch could perform. It included swiping on the pad with Safari activated to bring up Wikipedia entries, or pressing hard on an address in the Mail app to quickly bring up a location in Maps.
Transferring the Force Touch to an iPhone makes a lot of sense. Apple has shown that the feature can be included in smaller devices by inserting it into an Apple Watch. The iPhone would be able to provide a larger interface so that users have a larger collection of actions to enact.
Forbes notes that while Apple only showed off a few functions for Force Touch, developers could use the function to do a lot. For example, Force Touch could be used to revolutionize mobile gaming. It could also act as a key differentiator that gives the iPhone an edge in the mobile market.
"Apple has previously demonstrated it sees the integration of hardware, OS and apps as a key differentiators with its early move to 64 bit processors, custom graphics interfaces for game developers, and enhanced security options with Apple Pay for e-commerce apps which leverages Apple's 'Touch ID' fingerprint reader technology," Ian Hogg of IHS Design told Forbes.
