Twin Babies Riding In Wagon Struck, Killed By Car On Kentucky Road; Grandfather Also Killed

Twin babies were killed Sunday along with their grandfather when a car veered off a Kentucky road and struck them as the twins were being pulled in a wagon.

Witnesses called 911 and scrambled to help after a 2003 Chevy Malibu drove off the one-lane road in Florence, Kentucky, and struck two adult pedestrians headed northbound on the shoulder at around 12:30 p.m., WCPO reported. Both adults were pulling wagons carrying children.

Frances Claybern said she heard a woman screaming and ran over after calling 911.

"It was just heart wrenching. She was just running back and forth, and people were stopping in their cars and jumping out," Claybern told the station.

"Several men jumped out and jumped over the guardrail to help but, you know- I don't know. It didn't seem like they could do anything."

Another witness, Pam Perez, said she was driving with her daughter on Weaver Road when she saw a woman, reportedly the twins' aunt, flag them down for help.

"[My daughter] tried to do CPR on the babies that were laying there."

But the 13-month-old twins, identified as Sean and Samantha May, were pronounced dead at the scene along with their grandfather. He was identified as 49-year-old Charles Napier of Florence.

Susan Elam, the twins' aunt, and another child with the group received medical treatment for minor injuries, WCPO reported.

The driver of the Chevy, an unnamed 22-year-old woman, is said to be cooperating with police during their investigation, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The road where the incident occurred has no sidewalks.
