A New Jersey doctor took baby deliveries to a whole new level when she helped deliver a newborn via FaceTime.
The marvel occurred last Thursday when expecting mother Keyanna Rivera walked into her OB/GYN's office in Newark for a checkup, MyFoxNY reported.
Less than 10 minutes into her appointment, Rivera's water broke. But her OB/GYN, Dr. Meena Devalla, was several miles away helping other patients at Clara Maas Hospital in Belleville. Her staff did everything they could to help the pregnant woman.
"And in 20 minutes, [Rivera] said, 'I have to push' I said 'no you can't, because the doctor's not here,' " Oswaida Torres, Devalla's medical assistant, told WABC-TV.
The office manager sprang into action and grabbed her iPhone to call Devalla, who answered the call completely unaware of the crisis unfolding back in Newark.
"The girls called, and I was in a daze- what was happening?" Devalla told WABC-TV.
Using Apple's FaceTime feature, the doctor was able to watch and guide her staff as they delivered Rivera's baby.
"She told me to put two clamps and cut the cord, so that's what I did," medical assistant Samantha Syblis told the station.
Within minutes, baby Rafael entered the world at seven pounds, 10 ounces. Though both mother and doctor are thankful for modern technology, they told MyFoxNy they prefer sticking with traditional births.
