Chicago Bears RUMORS: Team Targeting Centers in Free Agency?

The Chicago Bears are mainly concerned with fixing an awful defense that allowed 327.1 yards per game and 19.9 points last year. But that doesn't mean they are going to neglect the offensive side of the ball completely this offseason. One way the Bears can alleviate some of the pressure from its defense is by improving its offense. That could mean changes are coming along Chicago's offensive line.

"The Chicago Bears have explored the possibility of signing veteran center Samson Satele," Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune wrote.

"Two NFL sources told the Tribune the Bears have expressed interest in the veteran that has started 114 games in his career for the Dolphins, Raiders and Colts. No deal is imminent at this point."

Chicago's current starter at the center position is Roberto Garza, who will count just north of $1.1 million against the salary cap in 2015. Garza was selected in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons and has been with the Bears since 2005. He will turn 35 years old later this month.

"It's unclear if the team's interest in Satele would impact veteran Roberto Garza, who has started at center for the last four seasons," Biggs added. Garza, 6-2, 310, was signed to a one-year extension two days before the end of last season."

The Bears' offensive line allowed 41 sacks and 82 QB hits last season. However, the unit did total an NFL-best 100 power rushes behind center in 2014, according to NFL.com.
