New Jersey Pregnant Woman Hid 89 Bags Of Heroin Inside 'Body Cavity,' Cops Say

A six months pregnant woman was busted Friday after New Jersey police caught her on surveillance camera hiding dozens of heroin bags inside her body cavity, authorities told the North Jersey Record.

Marina McCarthy, originally from Pennsylvania, was in the passenger seat of a car driven by a male acquaintance when a New Jersey cop stopped them in Glen Rock borough because the vehicle's temporary registration plate was not visible, Captain Jonathan Miller told the newspaper.

Upon conducting the stop, police learned the car was unregistered and uninsured. Officers also noticed needle marks on the arms of the driver, 27-year-old Dakota Dunning, who was driving with a suspended license.

Police suspected drugs were in the car and a K-9 unit from the Bergen County Sheriff's Office arrived to confirm their suspicions. But no actual drugs were located.

McCarthy and Dunning, who both had warrants out for their arrest, were cuffed and taken to police headquarters in Glen Rock, according to the North Jersey Record. While reviewing the police cruiser's surveillance footage, police witnessed McCarthy repeatedly placing her hands down her pants.

She apparently had easier access to the inside of her pants because she was handcuffed from the front on account of her pregnancy.

A female officer accompanied McCarthy to the bathroom and kept guard as McCarthy retrieved the small heroin bags- a total of 89- from her body cavity. It was not immediately clear exactly where the drugs were hidden.

McCarthy was checked out by paramedics but refused hospital treatment, Miller told the newspaper.

She was charged with possession of a controlled substance and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, according to the newspaper. Dunning is scheduled to appear in court the same day.
