The first - and potentially only - stop on the Greg Hardy NFL free agency tour thus far has been to Valley Ranch in Texas for a visit with the Dallas Cowboys.
Hardy reportedly met with the Cowboys brass Tuesday night and was set to take a physical on Wednesday, per a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Dallas has a glaring need at pass-rusher after DeMarcus Ware defected to Denver last offseason and Hardy, who collected 15 sacks in 2013, would presumably fill that role quite ably.
Dallas doesn't have a ton of cap room at the moment - about $5.4 million, per OverTheCap.com - but should everything check out with Hardy - mentally, emotionally, legally and physically - the Cowboys could certainly get creative with the contract structuring and get a deal done.
Only, per Schefter, the Cowboys aren't the only team in on the Hardy sweepstakes.
"While Cowboys are favorite to land Greg Hardy with him in Dallas, it's worth noting: Tampa Bay will not go away quietly. Bucs still in this," Schefter tweeted.
The Buccaneers released last season's free agent prize, Michael Johnson, last week after he posted just 27 tackles and four sacks in 14 games under a fully-guaranteed $16 million deal.
The Bucs and head coach Lovie Smith seem ready to jump head-first into the defensive end of the free agent pool again this offseason and have targeted Hardy, who is still on the commissioner's exempt list after facing allegations of domestic violence.
They've apparently done enough to intrigue Hardy, as Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that Hardy is expected to choose between Tampa Bay and Dallas sometime soon.
"Greg Hardy -- who's still in Dallas -- is down to the #Cowboys and #Bucs. Likely to make a decision later today," Getlin tweeted.
Hardy is expected by many to be suspended for the first six games next season.
Still, he'd be a major addition for sack-hungry defenses like Dallas and Tampa Bay and could be a massive mid-season boost for either team once he finally enters the lineup.
