Navy Seal Dies In Parachute Training Accident In California

A Navy Seal died Wednesday during a military parachute training exercise in Southern California after his parachute malfunctioned.

Paramedics received a call around 9 a.m. about the accident in Riverside County near Richard Street and Highway 74 in the Perris area, according to CBS Los Angeles. The unnamed victim was from the West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit. He died of injuries he suffered during the exercise.

The victim will remain anonymous until members of his family are notified. No further information could be provided at this time, but the cause of the accident is under investigation, said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

An American flag had been placed over the body after the accident as first responders stood by, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Most of Southern California's skydiving and skydiving accidents take place in the Perris area.

All questions asked of the fire department and Skydive Perris were deferred to the military.
