"Fifty Shades of Grey" fans are continuing to patiently wait for official casting news. A director has been announced, a screen writer and even the release date has been set but there has been no word on who will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the highly anticipated movie.
It had been rumored that E.L. James would make the big announcement during the San Diego Comic-Con, which starts July 18, but the author quickly put an end to the rumor. A couple days after Hollywood Life broke the story about the alleged big reveal James took to Twitter to let her fans know that it wasn't true.
"I dunno where this rumor started that the cast would be revealed at Comic Con... but it is just that - a rumor (Sighs)," she tweeted.
Since then there has not been another mention about casting news from the author. At one point it was speculated that James could be lying and really is planning on announcing the cast at Comic-Con but she replied to a fan's question about this writing that yes she is in San Diego but it's for a vacation adding again that the cast is not going to be revealed during the event.
So if "Team 50" really isn't announcing the cast at Comic-Con, when are they going to make the big reveal? It has already been announced that the movie is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall which gives them only a couple months left to announce who will playing Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
With time winding down, we think "Team 50" only has one other choice left for revealing the cast and that is August 1, 2013. That is a very important date for "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans because it will mark exactly one year until the movie hits theaters. This would be the perfect opportunity to really get fans excited for the movie.
There are several ways they can reveal the cast. They can tweet about it like they have been doing with other news but that's no fun, especially since this news is so big. They could hold a press conference and introduce the world to the cast, which would be a cool idea. They could also release a trailer of the trailer, like a sneak peak. The video could be short but gives fans just information as to who will play Grey and Steele.
Some other suggestions for James' and the big reveal: a reality mini-series, and a webcast. The Stir reports that a reality mini-series could be a "rating for gold." The website suggested that James and her crew could do something along the lines of "The Voice" where people get eliminated over several weeks and the last person left gets the role. This seems like a lot of work, however, and the announcement should probably be more direct since fans have been waiting so long anyway.
As for the webcast, The Stir thinks the author could tweet to her fans to go to her website by a certain time and date and "live-stream the announcement from a Red Room of Pain in an undisclosed location in the U.K."
What do you think, how would you like for E.L. James to reveal the cast?
