There's a time and a place to take a selfie, and two firefighters in Russia are learning that the hard way.
Ilya Bykov and Rostislav Krylov were ordered to go the scene of a burning shopping mall in Kazan. When they arrived the two posed for a selfie, with the building where 17 people eventually died and 55 were seriously injured, up in flames in the background. The pair of firefighters are now in jeopardy of losing their jobs for taking the photo, according to Metro.Co.UK.
"Most to the emergency workers called to the scene did their job competently and efficiently," a spokesperson for the Regional Emergency Situations Department told Metro. "These two are not characteristic of those who work hard every day, tirelessly saving lives.
"We are looking into the circumstances behind the photo and if it is found that the actions of these two firemen put people's lives at risk they shall be fired and criminal proceedings brought against them."
It is unclear who uploaded the photo to Russia's version of Faebook, VKontakt, but users of the social media site sounded off on it in the comments.
"Christ! People are dying in there and these men are smiling and taking photos!! They are there to save lives," one user wrote, according to Metro.
