Sony Pictures is in the process of developing a new version of the famous Shakespeare play "Romeo and Juliet" titled "Verona," Heat Vision reports. Joe Roth ("Alice in Wonderland," "Snow Thie and the Huntsman") will reportedly be responsible for producing the film.
The spec script was written by Neil Widener and Gavin James, though any and all details about it are being kept heavily under wraps. One surprising nugget of information that has escaped is that the retelling of the love story will be "stylistically similar to Zack Snyder's '300'," Max Evry of ComingSoon.net wrote.
Baz Luhrmann's modern reimagining "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" is perhaps the most famous of the recent examples of the story's retelling. James Gunn and Lloyd Kaufman's "Tromeo and Juliet" was a curveball thrown into the mix. An updated version from 2013 starring Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth failed to generate any interest at the box office.
Roth is currently in post-production on Disney's sequel "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass."
