March Madness continues on Friday with the Valparaiso Crusaders battling the Maryland Terrapins in the Round of 64. The NCAA Tournament second-round game, which tips off at 4:40 p.m. ET, can be watched - or listened to - for free by following the links below.
Some Maryland fans believed their Terrapins deserved higher than a No. 4 seed after the team made it through its inaugural Big Ten season with a 26-5 record. But the Terrapins fell to Michigan State in the Big Ten semifinals and now head into Friday with a 27-6 record. Regardless of the seeding, Maryland is fielding one of its best teams in recent memory, led by freshman standout Melo Trimble.
Trimble leads Maryland in scoring with 16.3 points per game, and while he's not yet considered a future NBA first-rounder, coach Mark Turgeon believe that could soon change.
"I think NBA looks for a certain style of player, certain type of player. Length, speed. Above the rim, things like that," Turgeon told the Associated Press of his 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard. "And he's not that guy. He's not the 6-7 wing span, run and dunk 'em kind of kid; he's just a really good basketball player," Turgeon said. "So he's close to that conversation. And I think where he was a year ago to where he is now, he wouldn't have even been considered in that conversation, but he shed 20 pounds. Another year or so, maybe the conversation will be different. But I'm just glad we got him."
Valparaiso has its own star in sophomore forward Alec Peters, who leads the team with 16.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. The Crusaders (28-5) won their 10th Horizon League championship to earn a No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament and enter on a three-game winning streak.
