Oregon's seven-game winning streak ended in a devastating 80-52 loss to Arizona in the PAC-12 final, but there's no denying the Ducks have played well down the stretch of the season. They've won 13 of their last 16 games, giving them a 25-9 record to help them earn a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Friday will mark Oregon's third straight appearance in the tournament, following a loss in the Sweet Sixteen in 2013 and a loss in the third round last year.
For Ducks coach Dana Altman, playing Friday's second-round game at CenturyLink Center will be in one sense like returning home. Altman, who coached Creighton for 16 years before taking over Oregon in 2010, spent his final eight years at Creighton playing at the arena.
"Coach is real excited," Oregon forward Elgin Cook told the Associated Press. "He coached here for so long, the least we can do is come out and play hard for him."
While Oregon may be heading into Friday on a bit of a roll, Oklahoma State, the West's No. 9 seed, isn't. The Cowboys have lost six of their last seven games, including a 64-49 loss to interstate rival Oklahoma in last Thursday's Big 12 quarterfinals.
"We haven't played or probably succeeded as well as we'd have liked lately," said Cowboys coach Travis Ford, "but this is a brand new opportunity for our team to play."
