South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is making news for something other than a crushing hit or sack. The Gamecock said on Wednesday that SEC quarterbacks are scared to face him on game day, ESPN reports.
Clowney made his feelings known during the SEC Media Days on Wednesday.
"I can tell (Clemson quarterback) Tajh Boyd is scared back there," Clowney said. "He ain't not sitting duck, but you can see in his eyes that he's scared of our D-linemen."
Boyd had a rough outing the last time the two teams met. Clowney recorded 4.5 of the six sacks on Boyd, helping the Gamecocks to a 27-17 win.
"We know that coming into the game that we have him shook already," Clowney continued. "We get a couple hits on him and it changes the whole game. He's scared every time we play them. I know he's probably listening to this right now, but I'm just telling the truth, man."
Boyd isn't the only scared quarterback, according to Clowney. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, former Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson and an unnamed third quarterback made Clowney's list.
"You can look at a guy and tell that he's scared," Clowney said. "If he's staring at me before the ball is snapped and he's staring at me every play before the ball is snapped, oh we got him. I tell the players that he's shook."
The Heisman Trophy hopeful is looking to add to his impressive campaign from last season, where he recorded 54 tackles and 13 sacks. His play earned him the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award, and he's predicted to go early in the 2014 NFL draft.
As successful collegiate players like Johnny Manziel make headlines for off-the-field antics, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is happy to have Clowney flying under the radar.
"Jadeveon has done an excellent job staying out of the limelight all summer," Spurrier told reporters on Wednesday. "He's been a good teammate. He's been there for the workouts. He's been there doing what he's supposed to do."
