Cory Monteith Cause Of Death: Star's Body Cremated, Father Not Invited to Private Hospital Viewing

"Glee" star Cory Monteith was tragically found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on July 13, and TMZ now reports that his body has been cremated following a private viewing at the hospital, which his heartbroken father was not invited to.

"I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much," father Joe Monteith, who is divorced from Cory's mother Ann, told TMZ. "I'm saddened at the fact that I couldn't have been there to see my son before he was cremated."

Cory Monteith's private viewing was attended by other family members including his mother Ann, brother Shaun and girlfriend Lea Michele. After the viewing, Ann decided to have the body cremated.

FOX News reports that the star died of a "mixed drug toxicity" involving heroin and alcohol. The star, who long battled addiction, was open to the public about his journey to seeking treatment and overcoming his illness. His girlfriend and "Glee" co-star Lea Michele was there by his side the entire time, and now the devastated star has asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Monteith's father told TMZ that he was "shocked" to learn of his son's alleged heroin use that may have contributed to his untimely death.

"At this point, there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith's death was anything other than a most tragic accident," the Coroners Service told FOX News.

"Our belief is that when he took the heroin he was alone," said Vancouver Police Department spokesman Brian Montague. "There was evidence in the room that was consistent with a drug overdose. We're not providing exactly what we found at the scene."

Cory Monteith served as the resident hunk on "Glee" with a heart of gold. His former cast mate Darren Criss recently attended the premiere of new movie "Girls Most Likely" wearing a black ribbon on his suit lapel to honor his friend's memory. The entire cast and thousands of fans are currently in mourning for the beloved star.
