For a while now, 20th Century Fox has been touting next year's "X-Men: Apocalypse" as even bigger than 2014's smash hit "X-Men: Days of Future Past." How will they accomplish this? By ramping up the stakes and jam packing the film with your favorite mutants.
It's been confirmed that the main cast of "X-Men: First Class" will appear in the film (possibly in their last appearance in the X-universe). In addition, younger versions of original trilogy characters such as Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) will appear, as well as a young Nitghcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee). However, we may have to add even more names to the growing list.
Umberto Gonzalez of Latino Review reports that several more fan favorites will cameo in "Apocalypse."
"Source tells me that X-MEN: APOCALYPSE begins principal photography in Montreal on April 28th & will feature cameos of Hugh Jackman's #Wolverine, Halle Berry's #Storm & get this...Channing Tatum's #Gambit!" Gonzalez posted on his Instagram.
The production start date and Jackman appearance aren't exactly earth shattering. But the additions of Halley Berry and Channing Tatum, if true, are a bit of a surprise. Berry's participation, as well as Ian McKellen's as Magneto, hints at some more loopy time travel storylines in "Apocalypse."
Tatum's appearance will be a pre-cursor to his solo "Gambit" film slated for next year. Gambit, a fan favorite, was played by Taylor Kitsch in the poorly received "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." However, that film has fortunately been retconned out of existence thanks to "Days of Future Past." Director Bryan Singer rightly must feel as if a big time blockbuster such as "Apocalypse" is the appropriate time to reintroduce fans to this lovable thief. One would also have to wonder if Ryan Reynolds will appear as Deadpool as well.
