"Captain Marvel" doesn't hit theaters until 2018, but Marvel may have already locked in an actress to make an early appearance in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
The Latino-Review reported that Marvel has cast the role of Captain Marvel and audiences will see the studio's first female superhero in the "Avengers" sequel on May 1. The outlet stressed the casting is unconfirmed at this time.
Previous versions of the "Age of Ultron" script ended with Captain America assembling a new team of superheroes that included Carol Danvers a.k.a Captain Marvel, according to Badass Digest. Director Joss Whedon has also teased the movie would introduce popular Marvel characters who have yet to be seen.
Marvel also has "blocked out the plot & story" of the "Captain Marvel" solo film and plans to bring in an "established writer" for the script. Kelly Sue DeConnick, a writer of the "Captain Marvel" comic book series, is reportedly in the running to land the job.
A number of actresses have been named possible candidates for the role of Carol Danvers. Emily Blunt, Natalie Dormer and Katee Sackhoff all have seen their names bandied about before and since Marvel announced its plans for the female superhero movie.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" premieres on May 1. "Captain Marvel" hits theaters on Nov. 2, 2018.
