Miami Dolphins RUMORS: DeVante Parker Targeted in NFL Draft to Help Ryan Tannehill?

The Miami Dolphins are an interesting team. They've finished around .500 in each of the last three seasons and are still not sure what they have in quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Is he a franchise guy? Is he just good and not great? Should he be the long-term answer in Miami?

All of these questions are likely being discussed in South Beach as Tannehill enters the final year of his rookie contract. One way the team could help answer these questions is by providing Tannehill with some talented wide receivers, especially after the Mike Wallace trade. If he takes advantage of them and the Dolphins make the post-season, they'll know whether or not they should give him a lucrative long-term contract. If Miami fails to make much progress, they'll have a better idea of who Tannehill is as a player.

But which receiver should the team add? ESPN NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper Jr. thinks Louisville's DeVante Parker is a perfect fit.

"The Dolphins have some dependable receivers in Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills, but nobody is going to mistake either of those guys as stretch-the-field types," Kiper wrote. "The departure of Mike Wallace creates a void for a true deep threat and the type of player who can consistently win in the air on contested balls.

"The chances: I think it's slightly less than a 50 percent chance right now. It's at least conceivable that Parker could be in play at any slot in the Nos. 9-13 range, and Miami picks at No. 14. If he's there, I'd grab him."

Parker caught 43 passes for 855 yards and five touchdowns last season. Some mock drafts have him going to the Minnesota Vikings at No. 11 or the Cleveland Browns at No. 12. The Dolphins will have to hope he falls to them next month.

The NFL draft will begin on April 30.
