A recent rumor about the production of the iPhone 5s has changed the way the tech industry's rumor mill views the upcoming release of whatever Apple is planning to unveil alongside the release of the new iOS 7 in the fall. The rumor states that the iPhone 5s will have its production schedule pushed back in order to accommodate the addition of a 4.3-inch display, which would make the device unavailable to consumers until at least the end of the year. This has caused many to wonder what is to become of Apple's plans for a low-cost iPhone 5s encased in plastic?
Apparently that device is still scheduled to come out in the fall as planned. That is, if more leaked pictures form Sonny Dickson on Twitter are any indication. It's important to note that Apple hasn't made anything official in terms of marketing or announcing that it even has plans to market a low-cost iPhone 5 to consumers. Previously everyone was under the impression that the plastic iPhone would be featured as a low-end 5s. However, it would be unlikely for the company to reveal a low-end smartphone before its flagship. This means it will either have its production delayed as well, or it will come out under a different moniker.
The new images show the budget iPhone compared in size and shape the flagship iPhone 5. For some unknown reason, the iPhone 5 used in the picture has been modified to with a purple back plate. That backplate is not meant to look or be anything official from Apple. However, the green plastic iPhone to the left is supposed to be the low-budget iPhone 5.
This is just one of many photos that have supposedly been leaked showing off the many colors of the plastic iPhone. However, all the specs for it appear to have the standard 4-inch display which means it likely won't be called the iPhone 5s given its specs will neither be exactly on par with the new flagship model, nor will its release time be in the right range to come as an accent to the brand's flagship smartphone. Only time will tell when all of these devices, including iOS 7 roll out in the fall.
Tell us what you think. Is a low-cost iPhone something that would appeal to you or anyone you know or is Apple just turning its wheels while we wait another year for a truly innovative device like the iPhone 5?
