The daughter of a Detroit mother accused of hiding her children's frozen bodies said her mother killed her two siblings and made her put one of the bodies in the freezer, according to court documents obtained by the Associated Press.
Mitchelle Blair was arrested Tuesday after the bodies of 13-year-old Stoni Blair and her 9-year-old brother Stephen Berry were found in a freezer while officials were in the process of evicting the mom from her east Detroit townhouse. Initial reports stated the victims were ages 11 and 14.
Investigators could not immediately say how long the children were in the freezer, but the suspect's 17-year-old daughter told social workers her mother killed Stephen in 2012, according to court records.
Her mother abused and tortured Stephen for two weeks before he died in August of that year, the daughter told social workers.
In 2013, Mitchelle Blair allegedly strangled her daughter Stoni in a fit of rage after the child said she did not like her siblings. The 17-year-old said her mother made her put her sister's body in the freezer, the AP reported.
As of Thursday Blair was charged only with child abuse. She remains held on $1 million bond. Autopsies on the victims are still pending, the results of which could mean murder charges for Blair, officials told WXYZ Detroit.
