New 'Mortal Kombat X' Trailer Features Return of Liu Kang

"Mortal Kombat" favorites Liu Kang and Kung Lao are returning to the series after their death, but they aren't who the fans think they are.

Netherrealm released the latest trailer for the next entry in the Mortal Kombat series, "Mortal Kombat X," on Thursday. This new trailer revealed new plot details about the fighting game and confirms the return of Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Kang was one of the original fighters from Earth, and was featured in both "Mortal Kombat" films. Kung Lao is the best friend of Liu Kang, and made his first appearance in the first "Mortal Kombat" game.

While Liu Kang and Kung Lao are considered (historically) to be good guys, Mortal Kombat X is turning it around. Apparently, Kang and Lao are working for Shinnok, the villain from "Mortal Kombat 4" who is returning in "Mortal Kombat X" to replace the recently defeated Shao Kahn.

This trailer comes after Netherrealm announced the Kombat Pack, which lets players play as Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th", The Predator, as well as "Klassic Kombat" characters Tremor and Tanya.

Comingsoon.net describes "Mortal Kombat X" as the "next highly-anticipated installment in its legendary, critically-acclaimed fighting game franchise that propels the iconic franchise into a new generation. The game combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy."

"Mortal Kombat X" will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on April 14.
