A sequel to the comedy "Coach," starring Craig T. Nelson has been picked up for a 13-episode season on NBC, according to Deadline. When the NBC series "Parenthood" was shooting its final episodes, "Coach" creator Barry Kemp and Nelson got their heads together and decided to bring Coach Hayden Fox back - and NBC decided to keep Nelson on its network.
The pitch: "Coach Hayden Fox, in the present day, has retired from coaching. He is called back to become assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy league school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team."
The sitcom will be shot in the usual multi-camera style. Nelson will star, Kemp will write and executive produce, but no other cast has been announced, according to Time.
TV networks have been betting on nostalgia lately with NBC's "Heroes Reborn," Showtime giving a third season to "Twin Peaks" and Fox's opening of "The X-Files." Shows like "The Michael J. Fox Show" and "Sean Saves the World" didn't pan out, but "Coach" is ready to get back in the game.
