Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones Drew had to clear up some remarks he made Wednesday after they sparked some confusion and controversy, according to ESPN.com.
Jones-Drew appeared on Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Radio to participate in a celebrity fantasy football draft. During the show, he told a story about former teammate Greg Jones. In the story Jones-Drew said Jones almost purposely missed a block in order win a fantasy matchup against Jones-Drew.
Here’s how the Jones-Drew’s story went:
"Greg Jones -- see he's not on the team anymore -- perfect example: I was playing against him. And we have our equipment guys keep us up on [the fantasy scores] during games. You know who you have and you see when you're not on the field obviously, but … I think if I scored, I was going to win.
"We got onto the 1-yard line, and they were like, 'We better call this run play.' I'm like, 'Greg, don't do it.' And he looked at me and he winked. And I was like 'Greg.' It's not time to play. This is bigger than that. Let's not do this."
Asked by the hosts what Jones' wink meant, Jones-Drew replied, "He wasn't going to block the guy!"
Jones-Drew’s comments began to circulate pretty soon, much to his dislike.
He took to Twitter Thursday to clear up the situation.
Jones’ Drew played only six games last season. He has been working to make his way back to the field from a Lisfranc injury.
So who did he select with the No. 1 overall pick in the fantasy draft?—Maurice Jones-Drew.
