No. 4 Louisville grabbed a spot in the Sweet 16 after handing Northern Iowa a 66-53 loss Sunday. Sophomore guard Terry Rozier did it all for the Louisville's offense, scoring 25 points and dishing out seven assists to go along with his five rebounds. On the defensive end, coach Rick Pitino made things difficult on UNI by changing defensive schemes at least three times, going from zone to man and back to zone.
The veteran coach knows the tournament only gets harder with each round, and Friday's Sweet 16 against No. 8 NC State will be no different. Especially since Pitino's squad lost at home to the Wolfpack on Valentine's day, 74-65.
"We have great respect for them," Pitino told the Associated Press. "They beat us at home. A lot of teams don't beat us at home. It was a close game, and then they pulled away. They're a team right now that can beat you so many different ways."
NC State's win against Louisville snapped its two- game losing streak and was arguably the catalyst for the team's strong finish to the season. The Wolfpack went on to win seven of their next nine games, including Saturday's surprising 71-68 upset of No. 1 Villanova.
"We came out today with the feeling that everybody expected us to lose to a 1-seed, but we believe in ourselves and that we're good enough to beat anybody in the country, and we went down and did it,'' said sophomore forward Beejay Anya, via ESPN.
