Premier League Transfer RUMORS: Manchester United, Chelsea Could Pursue Real Madrid's Gareth Bale

Real Madrid fans and the Spanish media can't seem to make up their mind on Welsh midfielder Gareth Bale, which could result in his departure from Spain and back to the Premier League.

They love him, then they hate him. And it appears right now Real Madrid fans hate Bale after his car was vandalized following the club's 2-1 loss to Barcelona last week. Over the past two seasons, Bale has accumulated 40 goals and 23 assists in 78 matches with Real Madrid, but it hasn't been good enough to put Real Madrid in front of rival Barcelona.

Real Madrid paid Tottenham between £77 million (Spanish press reports) and £85.3 million (British press reports) on September 1, 2013 to acquire Bale. Manchester United's offer for Bale back in 2013 was said to be higher than Real Madrid's, but the 25-year-old preferred to make the move to La Liga. That may now come to an end.

Man United and Chelsea could be his top suitors during the summer transfer window.

"I get the impression that the only way Bale is going to leave Madrid is if the club tell him to go," writes Paul Scholes of The Independent. "As their record signing, he may yet believe that the time for that is a long way off but we have seen them do it with some big names in recent years, including Mesut Özil and Angel Di Maria."

"My feeling is that he would be perfect for Manchester United ... I always felt that Bale was a natural fit for United as he developed at Tottenham from a left-back into one of the best attacking footballers in the country."

As for Chelsea...

"Gareth Bale has told his Wales colleagues he wants to stay at Real Madrid for at least one more season. But Chelsea are poised to move in," writes Rob Shepherd of the Daily Mail.

Shepherd also added that Madrid "are ready to accept the Welshman's £75million buy-out clause."

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked to Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne, so this summer could be full of surprises.
