Lion Mauls Australian Tourist During South African Safari Ride

Australian tourist Brendan Smith was enjoying being up front and center to view the exotic animals during his safari tour in South Africa when the unexpected occurred.

A lion - though unprovoked - crashed through Smith's car window and started tearing up his legs, according to Yahoo!

Smith had only explored the country for a day and half before the attack occurred and left him hospitalized. Even though he could have lost his life, Smith found a way to make light of the frightening encounter with the King of the Jungle.

"No later than 36 hours after touching down in Africa, I find myself in hospital after a lion jumped through the car window and decided to go to town on my legs," he wrote on Facebook. "Pretty full-on but am alive, with insurance coming to the party and an influx of curious Africans wanting to see 'the lion man.'"

It is still unknown why the lion approached the car and attacked Smith in the first place.

During a safari tour, it is imperative that visitors remain in their vehicles and keep all windows closed.

Smith posted photos of his leg lacerations and bite wounds on Facebook as well. He is currently being treated at Johannesburg's Fourways Life Hospital.

"Could have and should have been a lot worse but chicks dig scars so I'll be sweet!" he wrote on Facebook.
