Actress Kerry Washington is having a fantastic month. She recently married boyfriend Nnamdi Asomugha and now she has received a Best Actress nomination for her role as crisis manager and fixer Olivia Pope on ABC's show "Scandal."
Washington plays a former White House media relations consultant turned crisis manager for the rich and powerful. Her job is to solve problems and she is one of the best at "fixing" things. According to the Daily Mail, the 36-year-old found about the nomination while at an airport but caught up with People magazine to share how excited she was.
"I'm luckiest broad in showbiz," Washington said. "I just feel really blessed and humbled and grateful for this nomination."
She said that she plans on celebrating the big news with her "Scandal" family. As far as who her date will be for the award show in September, Washington said she wasn't sure just yet adding that her parents had asked her the same question.
Another "Scandal" star has also landed an Emmy nomination. Dan Bucatinsky, who plays James, is in the running for Outstanding Guest Star, E! News reports. He said he was still at home when he got the news but it didn't actually hit until Shonda Rhimes emailed him.
Bucatinsky said his first phone call was to Jeff Perry, who plays his lover Cyrus. He also told E! that he really feels Washington could take this award home.
"I'm so excited for Kerry, I really believe if Kerry can get nominated, I really think she has a shot at winning," he said. "She's phenomenal and it's a groundbreaking role and there's never been an African-American in a drama who's ever won... I just feel like it's high time we make history this year, not only with gay marriage, but with portrayals of this kind of woman on national television because it's important. I'm so over the moon for Kerry."
Washington is up against Connie Britton ("Nashville"), Elisabeth Moss ("Mad Men"), Robin Wrights ("House of Cards"), Claire Danes ("Homeland"), Michelle Dockery ("Downton Abbey") and Vera Farmiga ("Bates Motel").
The new season of "Scandal" returns Thursdays this fall.
