Fans of both Fox's "The X-Files" and nostalgia are about to be very happy.
Not only is Fox planning a revival of the beloved sci-fi franchise, but actor David Duchovny (who played Agent Fox Scully) shared some big casting news with David Letterman on Tuesday. Duchovny (who will also be joined by Gillian Anderson to reprise their cult-classic characters) revealed to "The Late Show" host that the Cigarette Smoking Man, a.k.a. Cancer Man (or just CSM), will be making an appearance in the six-episode event series.
Smoking Man, who was played by Canadian actor William B. Davis, was Mulder's primary enemy. He earned his infamous nickname because his on-camera appearances were almost always filled with chain-smoking cigarettes.
Duchovny also told Letterman that actor Mitch Pileggi is likely to return one productions begins this summer. Pileggi played Assistant Director Walter Skinner in the original series that debuted in 1993 and enjoyed a popular nine season run.
Duchovny and Anderson, who portrayed agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, played investigators who explored paranormal cases.
