Warning: The following contains Possible Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"
Whether you're an Imperialist who supports the Empire or a rebel just trying to become one with the Force, we can all revel in the joy that the first full length trailer for director J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will accompany "Avenger: Age of Ultron." Fan are hoping that this new trailer will shed a bit more light on the plot and characters of this new installment in the "Star Wars" franchise so that everyone can ease up on the rampant rumors and scary speculation.
One source of fan theories has been the film's villain, Kylo Ren (presumably played by Adam Driver), who wields the cross guard lightsaber in the teaser. We know he's a primary antagonist but we aren't sure what exactly his agenda is or if he is working with anyone else. However, a new crop of unconfirmed information may provide fans with some clarity.
According to Making Star Wars, Ren will be joined by two other villains in the film though he will have the most screen time of the three. Andy Serkis is reportedly portraying a character known as "Uber" who will appear in three scenes. Gwendoline Christie is playing stormtrooper Captain Phasma and is described by Making Star Wars as a "Boba Fett type." Her role will allegedly be expanded upon in Episode VIII.
In this way, "The Force Awakens" is similar to the original trilogy that set Darth Vader as the Big Bad initially before secondary villains filled out the rest of the bad guys' roster. A slow-buildup of antagonists will help the overarching arcs set to take place across this new trilogy.
One particularly interesting tidbit about Kylo Ren is his connection to the protagonists. Rumors indicate that there is a scene somewhere in the middle of the film where the Millennium Falcon is shot down on a snow planet by Ren's ship. After the Falcon crash lands, Ren leads a group of stormtroopers aboard and heads to the cockpit in what appears to be a sentimental moment. This has led some to believe that Kylo Ren is actually Han Solo's son (with other rumors saying that Daisey Ridley's character is his sister/Han and Leia's daughter).
If true, the Ren-Solo connection would take the place of the Vader-Skywalker relationship as one of the primary familial struggles of this new film. Good people turning to the Dark Side isn't exactly new territory for the "Star Wars" franchise but that internal struggle has proven to be incredibly compelling.
Also in the report, Making Star Wars referse to Domhnall Gleeson's character as "The General" who is an Imperial officer and works with Uber in some capacity. It was previously thought that Gleeson's character would be the son of Luke Skywalker, though that no longer appears to be the case.
Remember, all of these rumors are unconfirmed at this point. But that doesn't make them any less interesting.
