Detroit Woman Hid Newborn's Body In Desk At Work; Police Investigating Cause of Death

A newborn was pronounced dead Tuesday after it was found in a bag inside its mother's desk where she worked at a Detroit business, police said.

The grim discovery was made when police were called to Ceva Logistics in Detroit's Redford suburb after staff noticed blood on the bathroom walls and floor, Michigan.com reported.

It was later determined the unnamed 26-year-old from Wyandotte gave birth in the bathroom stall, placed her baby in a large bag then went back to work with the bag hidden in her desk drawer, according to police reports.

The mother allegedly had blood on her when she was found and was treated at a local hospital, CBS Detroit reported. The infant, said to be full-term, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

An autopsy is to determine a cause of death and whether or not the child was born alive.

Before authorities were called, employees asked the woman if she was OK. She said she was lightheaded but did not say she just had a baby, Michigan.com reported. The woman, who was a temp employee, also previously told her coworkers she was not pregnant, according to Logistics Director Ken L'Heureux.

The director declined to provide details of Tuesday's incident, the news site reported. Police also declined to release more details as the investigation is ongoing.
