A California sailor reported missing at sea by his family over two months ago was found alive and rescued Thursday, officials told CNN.
Louis Jordan, reported missing Jan. 29, was rescued from his disabled boat after a passing ship spotted him about 200 miles east of Cape Hatteras, N.C.
The 37-year-old sailor was taken aboard the Houston Express and was later taken to a Virginia hospital in a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, according to CNN.
Speaking to his dad by phone, Jordan said he was unable to travel back to Southern California because his boat was disabled and he could not fix it.
For the last 66 days, he remained stranded on his broken boat, keeping himself alive by eating raw fish he caught from the sea with his hands, the man told his father Francis Jordan, according to Coast Guard officials.
When it rained, he used his hands as a cup to drink.
Louis Jordan told his father the entire time he feared his parents thought he was dead, CNN reported.
"We were," Francis Jordan replied. "I thought I lost you."
He asked his son how he was doing.
"I'm doing fine now," Louis said.
