An East Village woman was reunited with her two cats after losing her home in New York's East Village fire Thursday.
Resident Kathleen Blomberg's cats, Kitty Cordelia and Sebastian, were found by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, reported CBS Local. The felines were hiding for their lives under Blomberg's bed.
When Blomberg initially heard the explosion, she looked outside to see what was going on and she wasn't given any time to go back and get her cats.
"I thought I would have an opportunity to go back upstairs to get the cats, but as soon as we came down, they started sealing off the building," Blomberg told CBS Local.
Blomberg was desperately searching for her cats, who she refers to as her children, in the days after the fire. Eventually the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals found the little felines and reunited them with Blomberg.
She learned Tuesday night that her cats were found safe.
"When I got the call, I just started screaming and crying and jumping up and down," Blomberg told CBS Local.
