Lucille Ball Statue: Fans Want ‘Frightening’ Tribute Removed From ‘I Love Lucy’ Star’s Hometown

The designer of a Lucille Ball statue in her hometown of Celoron, N.Y. may have sipped a little too much Vitameatavegamin while sculpting his tribute to the "I Love Lucy" star.

Devoted fans now want the statue removed and replaced with a more fitting one for the Queen of Comedy. One man, who's a "big fan of Lucy's," even started a Facebook campaign called, "We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue." So far, it has more than 2,000 Likes.

"Lucille Ball was not only an amazing comedienne, but she was a stunning beauty. Her sense of humor only made her more beautiful," the man, who chose to stay anonymous, told Yahoo News. "This statue looks nothing like the beautiful Lucy we all know. If for no other reason than that... the statue should go."

The fan doesn't believe the statue can be repaired and compared it to the better-designed statues in honor of "Bewitched," "The Honeymooners" and Bob Newhart. He also shares no ill will toward the artist Dave Poulin, just the piece he created.

"I think it looks like a monster. That is just my opinion," the fan said. "When you see it at night, it is frightening."

The statue of Lucy was unveiled in 2009. Celoron Mayor Scott Schrecengost told the Jamestown Post-Journal (via Yahoo News) that it would cost between $8,000 and $10,000 to recast the statue. The mayor would not use taxpayer money for such an operation, but a fund has been set up to raise the money.
