As Christians around the world prepare to celebrate Easter with delicious, sugary treats, pet owners need to be careful not to let their dogs try and snag a bite.
Although there are several types of human food that are bad for dogs, chocolate easter eggs are among the worst.
"Approximately 97 percent of the cases involving chocolate toxicity are associated with dogs," Dr. Justine Lee, a board-certified veterinary specialist in both emergency critical care and toxicology, told Pet Insurance.
If your animal does get its paws on chocolate - or other foods that are toxic for them - be sure to bring your furry friend to a veterinarian as soon as possible.
Although nothing may compare to chocolate, there are some treats that your pets can have to celebrate the holiday, such as Pawsitively Gourmet Sammy Squirrel Cookies from Amazon, adorable bunny treats from Tail bangers or peanut butter eggs from Health Hound Bakery.
Have a happy Easter and be safe!
