Three Florida men were hospitalized on Sunday when the bees they were allegedly trying to steal honey from surrounded and attacked them.
Pasco County Fire Rescue was alerted at around 11:26 a.m. to reports of people being attacked by a swarm of domesticated honeybees in New Port Richey, WTSP reported.
It's not clear how many bees were involved in the attack. But the hive, which was a wild one, is thought to have contained between 20,000 and 30,000 bees, according to ABC Digital.
Rescuers arrived to find three men being swarmed and repeatedly stung by bees. All three were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for 50 stings each, WTSP reported.
A fourth person, a woman, received multiple stings upon leaving her home but her injuries were minor.
Firefighters used a hose to disperse the swarm.
Pasco County sheriffs believe the men were trying to extract honey from the wild hive, which prompted the attack.
