Rand Paul Gears Up To Announce Presidential Campaign

U.S. Republican Senator Rand Paul is expected to announce his candidacy for the GOP's presidential nomination in his home state of Kentucky on Tuesday, The Guardian noted.

Rand Paul, son of congressman and two-time Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, is gearing up to be a potential presidential hopeful to keep an eye on.

Rand Paul's campaign launch in Louisville on Tuesday would be the beginning of a political path few Republicans have explored- a balance between the party's traditional conservative ideals while trying to appeal to a younger, more liberal crowd, according to The Guardian.

Despite doubts from the most conservative Republicans, Paul may be able to pull it off with his history of libertarian backers and even some support from Democrats.

When it comes to commenting on the most pressing foreign policy matters of the day, he has withheld comments unlike other Republican nomination hopefuls including Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush. For example, Bush and Cruz showed solidarity last week for Indiana's governor over the controversial religious freedom law that many fear will allow discrimination against LGBT people.

Pual did not take a stance on the issue, according to The Guardian.

But his silence may be his downfall for Republicans who want a not so libertarian leader in a time when the Iran nuclear deal and threats from ISIS among other issues have brought foreign policy to the forefront. Experts note he will have to move away from the staunchly libertarian image of his father, who twice tried and failed to win the Republican presidential bid, if he wants a shot at the White House in 2016.

It seems Paul's campaign team has him covered on that point. During his Thursday visit to the very conservative and early primary state of North Carolina, the senator plans on delivering a national security speech in front of an old World War II ship to invoke a sense of militaristic might.
