Marvel's ‘Avengers: Infinity War – Part I & II’: Russo Brothers Confirmed as Directors

For months, word on the comic book geek street has been that the Russo Brothers were favorites to direct "Avengers: Infinity War - Part I & II" after Joss Whedon departs the series following next month's "Avengers: Age of Ultron." With the smash success of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and the eager anticipation of "Captain America: Civil War" the duo appeared to be a great choice to close out Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that the Russos will be helming the two-part movie "event" that will finally bring Thanos (voiced by Josh Brolin) to the forefront of the Marvel conflict. The official Marvel press release didn't offer any hints as to who will be helping them write the film or which heroes may join the on-screen team. Instead, it focused more on the duo's ongoing contributions to the Captain America franchise.

"The Russo brothers first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' one of the top-grossing films from 2014, and are currently preparing to shoot Marvel's 'Captain America: Civil War.' The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3."

The Russos managed to caress a far-fetched plot into a believable threat in "Winter Soldier" while also providing some of the most entertaining action the MCU has ever produced (especially those amazingly choreographed one-on-one fight scenes. Get some.). "Civil War" will feature several Marvel characters and act as a mini-Avengers of sorts, providing a brief glimpse into what fans can expect once the pair receives access to the full Marvel roster.
