One of the more interesting storylines of the NFL draft is what the Oakland Raiders will do with the fourth overall pick. At that spot, the Raiders can more than adequately address one of their two biggest needs: pass-rusher and wide receiver. The presence of second-year quarterback Derek Carr has many believing that the team will opt for the latter.
If that's the case, a new, equally as important question is raised: Amari Cooper or Kevin White? Both are considered the top prospects at their position in this year's draft class and it's easy to see why.
Cooper set SEC records with 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns last season for Alabama. He is as polished of a route runner as you're going to find in this draft, a rarity for young wide receivers. His work ethic is impeccable and his track record is impressive.
White hauled in 109 passes for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. He's bigger than Cooper at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds and runs a faster 40-yard dash (4.35). However, he has just one year of big-time production at West Virginia and is much rawer as a prospect despite his slightly higher ceiling.
So what does the potential franchise quarterback think of Oakland's draft situation?
"The best player available. I don't mind who it is," Carr said. "I want whoever we pick to come in here and help us win Super Bowls. If we take a receiver, great. He's going to know my expectations. I'll be thankful for anybody that we get, but I'm not sitting there pounding the table, 'We need a receiver.'"
Starting quarterbacks, diplomatic until the end.
Carr impressed the Raiders with virtually no help around him on offense last season. If it was me making the pick, I'd opt for a wide receiver to alleviate some of the pressure on him. Personally, I'd lean towards Cooper but that's just me.
