All signs point to former Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston becoming the first-overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft and the latest franchise signal-caller for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers later this month.
Despite the plethora of indications of this expected outcome, Winston is reportedly not satisfied.
Winston, per a report from Gil Arcia, owner and editor of The Bay Cave, would like a commitment from Bucs head coach Lovie Smith and GM Jason Licht that they do, in fact, plan to make him the first pick in late April.
"Winston's camp would like "confirmation" from the #Bucs soon regarding their decision on the No. 1 pick," Arcia tweeted.
Why Winston would need "confirmation" is unimaginable. He's not the one making the decision, nor does he have any say in his NFL future prior to the draft.
It's unfortunate that incoming collegiate athletes are simply forced to go to a new team and a new city without any input on where they'd like to be, but at the same time, they're set to be paid hundreds of thousands and oftentimes, millions of dollars to play a game.
Most players view themselves as simply fortunate to be offered the opportunity to play the game they love and get paid for it at the same time.
Of course, the fact that Winston desires "confirmation" doesn't necessarily mean further indication of his reported immaturity and childlike demeanor.
Then again, demanding that the billion-dollar franchise that may or may not take you in the draft give you a firm commitment prior to the notoriously fluid process actually playing itself out isn't generally a good sign.
This could be nothing - it could simply be Winston hoping that the Bucs make the decision sooner rather than later so he can get a head start on watching film or ingratiating himself to the other Bucs players.
There's also every possibility that Winston is simply acting the part of the spoiled, entitled man-child for which he has developed a reputation - in the media, at least.
Again, the Bucs and Smith and Licht have given nearly every indication that Winston will be their selection at No. 1 in the 2015 NFL Draft - some have even gone so far as to call it a "done deal" - assuming the talented signal-caller doesn't find a way to screw that up prior to the pick actually being made on draft night.
