Dave Chappelle Reportedly Developing New HBO Comedy Special

It's difficult to unearth a more interesting career arc than that of Dave Chappelle. From the apex of celebrity to an afterthought of the public consciousness, Chappelle sabotaged his own rising star when he left his hit Comedy Central series "Chappelle's Show" during filming of its third season.

At the time, fans didn't expect Chappelle to go completely off the grid. It was thought that there would be a number of opportunities that would interest the man who had his finger on the pulse of American culture. He could always return to Stand-Up comedy, his first love, where he had smash hit specials such as 2005's "For What It's Worth" and 2000's "Killing Them Softly." Unfortunately, Chappelle never jumped back into that ring, or any other, in a national way.

That is, until now.

Chappelle is reportedly working on his first full-length comedy special in 10 years, according to Comedy Hype. Chappelle has returned to the stage in recent years, but typically in smaller venues. Now it appears as if he is preparing to make a big-time comeback to the medium that made him famous. Sources familiar with the situation told Comedy Hype that he has been amassing footage for an upcoming HBO special.

Fans that were in attendance for his recent string of live shows at Austin's ACL Live in Texas seemed to confirm this on Twitter.

These reports remain unconfirmed at this time. But Chappelle is too funny and has too many sharp critiques of the world's bad behavior to stay quiet for long. And we all know we've given him plenty of material to work with over the last decade.

I, for one, couldn't be more excited to hear what he has to say after all these years.
