Von Miller Suspension: Broncos Star Denies Violating Drug Policy, Calls Report A Disappointment

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, pending appeal, is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, ESPN reported. The Pro Bowler on Monday denied using any banned substances and believes the suspension will be overturned.

The four-game suspension is the result of a failed drug test, but could be overturned in the appeals stage. The NFL hasn't set a date for Miller's appeal, according to ESPN. Because of the league's confidentiality policy on such cases, the NFL would likely only comment if Miller's appeal fails.

An NFL source told ESPN that Broncos management was aware of an issue with Miller and wasn't surprised by Monday's news. An anonymous Broncos player voiced his disappointment in a text message to ESPN.

"He's a different guy, but I never thought he would risk his career. Gotta help him bounce back now. Can't turn my back on him," the anonymous Broncos player messaged. "Disappointed yet concerned about the man. Still love him, though."

Miller denied the allegations on Monday, and he believes he'll be vindicated after the appeals process.

Losing Miller for four games is a tremendous blow to Denver. The 24-year-old is crucial to the team's defense, especially with the offseason departure of Elvis Dumervil. Miller is a top pass-rusher - he terrorized quarterbacks last season with 18.5 sacks. His numbers last year also included 68 total tackles and six forced fumbles.

Miller has 30 total sacks since entering the league in 2011 - only Jared Allen (34), Aldon Smith (33.5) and DeMarcus Ware (31) have more.
