In my last “NBA 2K14” piece I discussed the possible expansion of signature skills. Just to be clear I was simply making a suggestion. I acknowledge that turning Steph Curry into a shooting machine would make the game almost unfair and pretty much unrealistic. However I was simply stating there should be a way to portray the magnificent performances and plays that happen in real life, in the video game. Regardless, I admit the article could have been presented much better and I digress.
I want to turn to a piece recently posted on GamerAnx.com discussing what fans want to see in the game.
“NBA 2K” has done so much to enhance play on the court as a whole. However, what about off the court? The piece referred to a YouTube video entitled “My Halftime Show Wishlist” posted by ShakeDown2012. In the video the user talks about past halftime shows such as the ones in “NFL 2K5” and “All-Pro Football 2K8.”
The user makes pretty valid points, suggesting the half time interviews and halftime show would add a more authentic feel to the game. He also mentions using TNT’s post game show.
This is about the only area in which 2K Sports has not excelled. The pre-game, halftime and post game areas of the presentation could be much realer.
In the beginning of the game why not have Steve Kerr interview LeBron James. As ShakeDown2012 points out its not like we haven’t seen VideoGame James speak.
I believe, before the season, 2K Sports could have one or two star players from each team come in and do a post game interview. The chances are that person is going to win the Player of the Game award most of the time, so it wouldn’t be that unrealistic. Then, you can also record more generic interviews in case another player wins Player of the Game or is excelling at halftime.
Personally, I enjoy seeing my favorite player dominate a game and then explain how he was able to do so. I also enjoy having the analysts break it down in the postgame show. (And if its Kenny, E.J. Shaq, C-Webb and Chuck you’ll even get a few laughs before, between and at the end of the game.)
This is definitely one area in which “NBA 2K14” (and other sports games) could improve and it would help satisfy the ever-growing desire for authenticity that all sports gamers have.
