Gordon Murray is looking to give his T.25 city car a new look in a new project focused on efficiency.
The initiative, called Project M, will see the Formula One race car designer work with Royal Dutch Shell to build a model of the compact vehicle that is a "simple, practical global city car," according to The Truth About Cars. The oil and gas company's job will be to provide its knowledge about engine lubricants.
Ex-Honda F1 engineer Osamu Goto will also assist in the project by designing the powertrain.
Shell says the end goal for Project M is to develop a highly-efficient car for use in increasingly congested cities that minimizes the amount of energy people use while driving, Gizmag reported.
The car is also being designed to use an internal combustion engine, and Shell says such vehicles will remain in demand for quite some time. As a result, the company added, it is important to continue looking for a way to increase efficiency in cars with internal combustion engines so that they also emit less carbon dioxide. Other ways Shell suggested for reducing CO2 output include improving efficiency in non-powertrain cars, bringing down a vehicle's weight, and using improved fuels and lubricants.
There are no plans for production ahead for the Project M vehicle, Gizmag reported. Shell and Murray are expected to unveil their city car in November.
