California Horse Thief: Police Caught on Tape Tasering, Beating Man

Eight deputies from San Bernardino were caught on video reportedly using a Taser and beating a man in the California desert who stole a horse on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Francis Pusok, reportedly led authorities on a chase, which led police to follow on foot, helicopter and off-road vehicles, that eventually led to the desert, according to The New York Times.

San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said video of the footage is "disturbing" and ordered an investigation into what happened.

Pusok, who is 30 years old and lives on the edge of the Mojave Desert, has "undisclosed injuries," The New York Times reported.

On the video, which was captured in a helicopter from NBC's Los Angeles affiliate, Pusok is seen falling off of the horse. NBC Los Angeles has the specific details on what happened next:

"In the two minutes after the man was stunned with a Taser, it appeared deputies kicked him 17 times, punched him 37 times and struck him with batons four times. Thirteen blows appeared to be to the head. The horse stood idly nearby.

"The man did not appear to move from his position lying on the ground for more than 45 minutes. He did not appear to receive medical attention while deputies stood around him during that time."
