North Carolina's Wayne Community College remains on lockdown after a still at-large gunman, believed to be a former student, killed a school employee Monday, officials said.
Early reports of the 8 a.m. shooting indicated it took place in the library, but school officials told CNN the incident occurred on the third floor of a building at the school's campus located in Goldsboro, N.C.
The suspected shooter, identified by police as Kenneth Stancil, walked into the building and shot and killed the school's print shop operator, Rob Lane.
"Our hearts are heavy at the loss of an employee - a valued employee - and we will soon be reaching out to the family," Wayne Community College President Kay Albertson said, CNN reported.
All campus buildings have been secured, Major Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office told the station. Classes have been canceled as police continue searching for the alleged gunman.
"This is not a random situation. It is an isolated situation," Effler told CNN.
Sheriffs previously said the suspect was a 5-foot-11 white male with a tattoo above his left eye, which matches Stancil's description. Police also said the alleged shooter was wearing a blue jacket and light-colored pants.
A SWAT team and law enforcement from several agencies are on the scene, according to the Goldsboro News-Argus.
